What happens when the distance between an idea and working software becomes dramatically shorter? Some thoughts on creativity, curiosity, and AI-powered building.
I get "Inventing on Principle"[1] vibes here! I've thought a lot about AI and creative work and I don't have any clear answers but I think we're thinking in the same tribe around this. Fun!
I wasn't familiar with Bret's perspective here, but I'm watching the video now and it resonates quite a bit. One point that really resonated was his observation that if you can't explore ideas as they occur to you, you'll inevitably miss the chance to pursue some of them altogether. There's a real loss in that, and it's a loss I didn't realize I was experiencing until the barrier to create / build / explore ideas more immediately was lowered.
I couldn't believe the video was 14 years old - it's still so relevant today! Very much ahead of it's time, and also agreed on the challenges today (but also it's so important).

And of course the points about simulation :)
I thought that might resonate. This was so ahead of its time, but building it into agentic workflows has been challenging

Yes! We can’t keep it all in our heads but pur tools can bear that burden so we can get curious!
Exactly! I feel like reducing the idea <> exploration gap is so potent for exactly this reason.
