What I love most about this is your refusal to treat 35 as the age when ambition is supposed to become more “reasonable.” When I was eight or nine, one of my great ambitions was to defeat every snot-faced older kid at four square. At 36, the arena has changed, but the instinct clearly hasn’t. 😂
Building anything important over time is so fucking hard that it requires an almost medically concerning ability to stay hopeful, optimistic, and just delusional enough despite the evidence and everyone else’s unsolicited assessment of your odds. Calling each of the last five years pivotal doesn’t make this one less so. It means you’ve persisted long enough to give yourself five consecutive chances to be right.
Runtoberfest feels like the physical embodiment of that same instinct: choose something slightly unhinged and completely optional, which somehow makes it even more deranged; prepare seriously; accept that it may hurt; and keep moving toward the finish line anyway.
That combination of dogged determination and disciplined preparation is founder behavior through and through. 💪🏽💪🏻
Here’s to our 30s, CodeYam finding its stride, four finish lines, and the productive delusion required to make it all possible.
I’m rooting for you loudly. Just please stretch and listen when your body asks for rest. This advice comes from someone who has historically done neither. 😘❤️
(TLDR: The body keeps score, and eventually it collects payment. 📌 For the next live conversation!)
Every single part of this resonates with me, and know that I am rooting for you too. Thank you for seeing me so clearly.
Here’s to embracing our audacity, ambition, and continuing to do the really hard, slightly bananas, things we set our minds to this year, and beyond.
Also, heard and appreciated on stretching! There are more creaks and tweaks than I remember and need to do better on stretching and strengthening and not just energizer bunny running.
Also just to clarify, my birthday's not until the 20th so still a few more weeks of feeling 34. However, I wanted to put my wish out there early since I'll be training all month for Runtoberfest. Happy Virgo season, y'all!
